A Conversation with Sabina Chantouria

What initially sparked your interest in pursuing a career in the arts for those who may not be familiar with your background?

I’ve always loved to express my emotions through music, songwriting and singing. I wrote my first songs when I was 12 and vividly remember singing in front of a big crowd for the first time, thinking this is what I want to do. I started to take part in different talent shows in my early teens and my first major steps towards music as a career was when I was 19 years old and got chosen to participate with my original songs in World Championship of Performing Arts in Hollywood.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest single?

Yes, my latest single is called Echoes. You know how you can miss someone close to you very much, that’s no longer with you but you have all these memories and how small things remind you of them. It’s like echoes of that person and that time you shared together. Time also inspired me to write it, like I’ve always been fascinated with time.

What themes or emotions are explored in this song?

Love, loss and time are the emotions explored in this song. Basically, it’s about missing someone you love and the concept of time, how you can’t go back in time but you can always go back to a memory.

How does this single fit into the larger narrative of your music career or your upcoming projects?

It fits very well, I’ve long wanting to make an Americana pop/country/rock song and it defiantly feels like I’m on the right track.

Could you describe the creative process behind this single, from concept to production?

It has really been an amazing and very long production journey. The demo was first recorded by my good friend, musician and songwriter Mark Watts in LA. The full production was recorded by the great Ventura based music producer Dave Jenkins that I meet thanks to Mark Watts, where I had the pleasure of working with world renowned musicians like Kenny Aronoff, Doug Pettibone and Jorgen Carlson, adding their unique touch to the production, that production has opened many new doors and sound wise a blend of Americana, country and pop/rock sounds.

What can listeners expect to experience or feel when they listen to this track?

Remembering someone you love, the memories and the things that made the connection so special for you.

Are there any interesting stories or anecdotes from the recording or writing of this song that you’d like to share?

Yes well first of all, I’m so glad that I met Mark Watts at a songwriting event in LA, 2019 where I played the song live, had I not done that this would not have happened. I’m so grateful for how all this came about. The recording sessions were done during the covid pandemic, I was in Sweden at the time so we were doing the collaboration on a distance to. There were many out of the ordinary things about this production that I’m very thankful for and working with Dave Jenkins, Doug Pettibone, Kenny Aronoff and Jorgen Carlsson has really been a dream come true.

As an artist, can you identify three key traits that define you?

Straightforward melody driven music
Heartfelt and reflective lyrics, exploring love, freedom and time
A love for guitars, minor chords and bittersweet feelings.

What can we anticipate in terms of your upcoming projects?

I’ve been writing a lot of new music lately and I’m very excited to start recording and releasing them this new year ahead. I also plan to play many shows and I have some exciting collaborations in the making, so stay tuned ☺
