An Exclusive Conversation with Riley Wheater

What initially sparked your interest in pursuing a career in the arts for those who may not be familiar with your background?
I have always grown up loving the arts. I started off as a dancer for 10 years, and realized how much I loved to sing and started taking lessons. I also grew up around music and country music, and fell in love with it.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest single?
When we started writing my new single “Heart Around It”, one of the other writers came with the idea, and from then on I used some of my experiences that I could use to relate, so that it could help me write. The meaning behind the song is after being so heartbroken you can’t wrap your heart around the thought of it anymore, and why is it so amazing.

What themes or emotions are explored in this song?
I would say my new song starts off being sad and heartbroken and not being able to see why love is so good. As you get to the end of the song the mood changes a bit to hope, and how one day you will be fine just not now.

How does this single fit into the larger narrative of your music career or your upcoming projects?
I think this single and many more to come really tell a story and show off my voice of who I am.

Could you describe the creative process behind this single, from concept to production?
When writing this song I wanted something that everyone could relate to, and I wanted to tell a story through the song and music video.

What can listeners expect to experience or feel when they listen to this track?
I think this song can bring out happy and sad emotions depending on what someone is going through.

Are there any interesting stories or anecdotes from the recording or writing of this song that you’d like to share?
I think what’s interesting for me about this song was that I was down in Nashville working with writers for this song. It was so fun and a great experience.

As an artist, can you identify three key traits that define you?
I think that my voice, style, and personality really define me.

What can we anticipate in terms of your upcoming projects?
I think with lots of my next songs there will be some songs about me and who I am.

Where can our readers find additional information about you and your work?
Everyone can find things out on my website, and instagram.
